Why it matters

Spotify has not announced a Wrapped 2026 date, and many dates online are guesses. This guide separates what Spotify has said from predictions and shows which settings change what your recap includes.

Spotify Wrapped has launched on the Wednesday after US Thanksgiving five years running. Spotify has not announced a release date for Wrapped 2026 as of October 28, 2026, but its own launch history points to late November or the first week of December.

Quick answer: There is no official date yet. Wrapped arrived on December 3 in 2025 and December 4 in 2024. Official Charts, the UK chart compiler, predicts Wednesday, December 2, 2026, and says that is its own estimate, not a Spotify announcement.

Nothing on Spotify’s newsroom, the company’s official news site, mentions a 2026 edition yet. Its latest posts, dated October 21 to 23, cover third-quarter earnings and artist campaigns. That is not unusual. On November 13, 2025, three weeks before last year’s launch, Uproxx was still noting that Spotify had set no date.

When has Spotify Wrapped come out before?

Spotify has never kept to a fixed calendar date. It has kept to a fixed window. Every launch since 2018 has fallen between November 29 and December 6, and since 2021 every one has landed on a Wednesday.

Edition Launch date Day US Thanksgiving
2018 December 6, 2018 Thursday November 22
2019 December 5, 2019 Thursday November 28
2020 December 1, 2020 Tuesday November 26
2021 December 1, 2021 Wednesday November 25
2022 November 30, 2022 Wednesday November 24
2023 November 29, 2023 Wednesday November 23
2024 December 4, 2024 Wednesday November 28
2025 December 3, 2025 Wednesday November 27

Put the two columns side by side and the shifting dates stop looking random. Wrapped moves because US Thanksgiving moves. Since 2021, Spotify has released it six days after Thanksgiving every time, which is why it came out in November in 2022 and 2023, when the holiday fell early, and in December in 2024 and 2025, when it fell late.

Spotify has never explained the timing. The obvious reading is that it avoids the US holiday weekend and the Black Friday shopping rush, but that is inference, not anything the company has said.

When will Spotify Wrapped 2026 come out?

In 2026, US Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26. If Spotify keeps the pattern of the last five years, that puts Wrapped on Wednesday, December 2.

Official Charts, which compiles the UK’s official music charts, reached the same date in a prediction published on October 26. It framed this as a reading of the pattern, not inside knowledge, and noted that none of the last five editions came later than December 4. Uproxx, writing before the 2025 launch, said only that the release usually arrives in late November or early December and that Spotify has no set day.

December 2 is the strongest guess. It is still a guess, and Spotify has broken its own patterns before: the 2018 to 2020 launches fell on Thursdays and a Tuesday.

Does Wrapped stop counting your listening on October 31?

No, according to every account of the 2025 edition, though this is the part of Wrapped that attracts the most confident and least reliable claims online.

What Spotify has published: its 2025 Wrapped page sets the rules for who gets a personal Wrapped and which streams count. It does not print a cutoff date.

What has been reported: the Associated Press, in a December 3, 2025 article on how the recap is built, said Spotify uses listening from January 1 through around mid-November, which leaves time to process the data before an early December launch. Official Charts says Spotify confirmed the same January to mid-November window for 2025, and adds that October 31 is not necessarily the cutoff. One consequence, the AP noted, is that Christmas songs played in December rarely make anyone’s Wrapped.

What nobody knows yet: the 2026 window. Spotify has not said whether it will match 2025. Some websites state an exact cutoff day for 2026; none of those dates come from Spotify.

Offline listening counts too, according to the AP, as long as the device reconnects to the internet a few weeks before launch.

How to find your Spotify Wrapped

Wrapped lives in the mobile app. Spotify’s 2025 instructions were short, and the steps below follow them; the 2026 version may change.

  1. Update the Spotify app on your iPhone or Android phone before launch day.
  2. Open the Home screen and look for the Wrapped feed at the top.
  3. Search “2026 Wrapped” in the app if the feed does not appear. In 2025 the search term was “2025 Wrapped”.
  4. Tap through the stories. Each one can be shared as a card to social apps or sent through Spotify Messages.
  5. Save the Your Top Songs playlist that comes with it, which keeps your top tracks after the stories disappear from the Home screen.

Free and Premium users both get Wrapped, in nearly all markets where Spotify operates, the company said in 2025.

Who doesn’t get a Wrapped?

Light listeners. For 2025, Spotify required at least 30 songs streamed for more than 30 seconds each and at least five different artists over the year. The AP reported a further rule for the new Top Album story: you needed to have heard at least 70% of that album’s tracks.

What’s included in Spotify Wrapped?

The core has barely changed in a decade: minutes listened, top songs, top artists, top genres and top podcasts. Around that core, Spotify rotates new features each year, and the rotation is where the arguments start.

The 2024 edition was widely criticized as thin. TechCrunch and the AP both reported that users mocked it for missing genres and leaning on an AI-generated podcast. Spotify responded in 2025 with what it called nearly a dozen new or updated features. Its newsroom listed these new stories:

  • Listening Age
  • Top Song Quiz, which asks you to guess your top track
  • Top Albums and Top Audiobook Genre
  • Clubs, which sorts listeners into one of six groups by listening style
  • Fan Leaderboard and Top Artist Sprint
  • Listening Archive, AI-generated snapshots of up to five memorable listening days, in English in select markets

It also added Wrapped Party, a live feature for comparing results with friends. Spotify has not said which of these return in 2026.

How to keep listening out of your Wrapped

Two Spotify settings decide what Wrapped sees, and they work differently.

Private session. Spotify’s support page says listening in a private session will not affect recommendations or appear in your Wrapped. On a phone or tablet, tap your profile picture, then Settings and privacy, then Privacy and social, and switch on Private Session under Listening activity. On desktop, click your profile picture and choose Private session. It switches itself off after six hours or when the app restarts, and it applies across all your devices. The AP reported one nuance for 2025: private listening still counted toward your total minutes, just not your rankings.

Exclude from your taste profile. This is for the playlist you play your child at bedtime, or the white noise track you sleep to. Open the playlist or track, tap the three-dot menu and choose “Exclude from your taste profile”. Spotify says the change takes up to 48 hours, and excluded streams are left out of every Wrapped story except total listening time. The catch: the same song played from somewhere else, such as Liked Songs, still counts.

Neither setting deletes anything. Spotify keeps your listening history either way; these controls only change what is used for recommendations and your recap. The AP also reported that Spotify filters out what it calls “background sounds”, such as white noise, on its own.

Why Wrapped became a marketing phenomenon

Wrapped started as something smaller. Spotify’s 2015 “Year in Music” campaign was a general retrospective that the company says reached more than 5 million unique users. In 2016 Spotify renamed it Wrapped and added a personal Your Top Songs playlist for each user, according to a Spotify newsroom history published in December 2024 and Official Charts.

The numbers since are of a different order. Spotify said Wrapped 2025 reached more than 200 million engaged users, meaning people who viewed at least one story, within 24 hours of launch, TechCrunch reported. The 2024 edition took 62 hours to hit the same mark. Shares passed 500 million in the opening period, up 41% on 2024, with the US, India, Indonesia, Japan, Colombia and Thailand leading.

Those shares are the point. Every story card posted to Instagram or WhatsApp carries Spotify’s design to people who may not use the app, at no cost to the company. Marc Hazan, Spotify’s senior vice president of marketing and partnerships, told the AP that Wrapped is “a full year production” involving every part of the company.

Yakov Bart, a marketing professor at Northeastern University in Boston, gave the AP a less flattering reading. He described Wrapped as an “annual ritual” and said it normalizes the tracking of what he called the “digital footprints that consumers leave online”. In his view, Wrapped turns tracked data into entertainment, so users move from “feeling under surveillance” to “feeling seen”.

Both can be true at once. A December recap of your own habits is fun. It is also a yearly reminder of how much a streaming service knows about you, presented so well that millions of people publish it voluntarily.

Timing a big release to an exact cultural moment is an old entertainment habit; it is also how studios plan when new movies reach streaming services.

What to watch before launch day

Watch for: Spotify’s newsroom and the Wrapped feed at the top of the app’s Home screen. They are the only places that can confirm the date.

A mid-November cutoff would mean that most of the listening that shapes your 2026 Wrapped has already happened by the time this article appears. If you want an early look, Spotify’s On Repeat playlist, which Official Charts suggests as a preview, shows the songs you have played most in recent weeks.

And if a website gives you an exact Wrapped date before Spotify does, check where it came from. So far in 2026, every date in circulation is a prediction.
